Birthday present for my goddaughter

I initially made a very colorful hat for my baby, then I decided to make another with a scarf as a birthday gift for my goddaughter.

I used DK yarn for both but you can use any yarn. The measurements I followed on most of my hats is from here.

I use the following measurement for the height of the ribbed band, but you can make the height you like:

Baby sizes: 1 inch
Child sizes: 1.5 inches
Adult sizes: 2 inches

Materials

Your selected yarn. I used like 130 yards on each hat and almost 250 yards for the scarf.
2 hooks, the size recommended for the yarn and other one size up.
Yarn needle
Scissors
3 pompoms

Ribbed Band:

With the smaller hook and the yarn you want for the band.

Row 1: make a chain until get the desired heigth for the band. I made 8 in both hats.

Row 2: 1 hdc in the second chain from the hook, 1 hdc on each chain across, chain 1 and turn.

Row 3: 1 hdc on the first stitch, 1 hdc on back loop only on each stitch until before the last stitch, 1 hdc on the last stich, chain 1, turn.

Repeat row 3 until get the measurement of the circuferemce, count you rows and make sure you have multiples of 4.

Fold the band and join with slip stich.

Hat:

With the bigger hook, continue with the same color yarn

Row 1: make 3 sc on every 2 hdc on the band, slip stich with the firs sc.

With the second color of yarn

Row 2: chain 1, sc in the same stich, * skip 2 sc, 5 dc in the next sc, skip 2 sc, 1 sc in the next sc ** . Repeat from * to ** until before the last sc. This hat is worked in rounds, the last sc will be make in the third dc of the first cluster.

Row 3: * 5 dc in the sc, sc in the third dc ** , repeat  from * to ** until get the desired length.

Decreasing the top of the hat, put a mark in the beggining of this row.

Row 1: * 3 dc in the sc, sc in the third dc ** , repeat  from * to ** until the mark.

Only if you want to decrease more, put the mark again in the beggining of this row.

Row 2: * 3 dc in the sc, sc in the second dc ** , repeat  from * to ** until the mark.

Fasten off, leave a long tail to close the top of the hat with a needle and attach a pompom.

In the case of the scarves the length and wide depends of the personal preferences but this is the guide I use for regular sizes:

Length

3 - 5 years: 36"
5 - 7 years: 44"
8 - 10 years: 50"
Preteen: 57"
Small Women: 64"
Medium Women: 68"
Large Women: 69"
Small Men: 67"
Medium Men: 70"
Large Men: 75"

Width

Skinny scarf: 3" - 4.5 "

Winter scarf: 5" - 8"

Scarf

With the bigger hook

Make a chain of multiple of 6 plus 4, this chain will be the width of the scarf.

Row 1: chain 3, 2 dc on fourth chain, skip 2, 1 sc, * skip 2, 5 dc on the next chain, skip 2, 1 sc **. Repeat from * to ** until the end.

Row 2: chain 3, turn, 2 dc in the same stitch, 1 sc in the third dc, *5 dc in the sc , 1 sc in the third dc **, repeat from * to ** until the end.

Repeat row 2 until get the desired length. Fasten off.

Join all clusters from the third dc with a long tail of yarn using a needle on both sides of the scarf and attach a pompom.

Please feel free to ask if you have questions or any feedback. I hope you enjoy the pattern.
