How to crochet medium and small feathers




Due to the success of crochet feathers, Ana Celia and Esperanza created a new tutorial for medium and small feathers. You can watch the video here.


Materials

Any yarn recommended to crochet with 3 mm hook. I used Herrschners 2-Ply Fashion Yarn on Boho Chic. I used variegated yarn but this is the perfect project to use all the leftovers of yarn.
2 mm hook
Yarn needle
Scissors

Steps for medium size

Foundation chain and the calamus: chain 5, chain 5 to start the calamus, chain 1, slip stitch in the next 5 chains, chain 5


Row 1:  chain 3 (count as first dc), 2 dc in the same stitch, 1 dc in the next chain, 1 dc3tog (3 dc together), 1 tr on the calamus, 1 dc3tog, 1 dc in the next chain, 3 dc in the last chain.


*** From the following rows all the dc will be worked in the back loop only. ***

Row 2:  chain 3 (count as first dc), 2 dc in the same stitch, 1 dc in the next 1 dc, 1 dc3tog (3 dc together), 1 fptr (front post treble crochet), skip the treble chain of the previous row, 1 dc3tog, 1 dc in the next 1 dc, 3 dc in the last dc.


Row 3: chain 3 (count as first dc), 2 dc in the same stitch, 1 dc in the next 1 dc, 1 dc3tog (3 dc together), 1 fpdtr (front post double treble crochet) taking the tr from 2 previous rows, skip the treble chain of the previous row, 1 dc3tog, 1 dc in the next 1 dc, 3 dc in the last dc.
Row 4 to 7: repeat row 3.

Decreasing rows:
Row 1: chain 3 (count as first dc), 1 dc in the same stitch, 1 dc in the next dc, 1 dc3tog (3 dc together), 1 fpdtr (front post double treble crochet) taking the tr from 2 previous rows, skip the treble chain of the previous row, 1 dc3tog, 1 dc in the next dc, 2 dc in the last dc.

Row 2: chain 3 (count as first dc), 1 dc in the same stitch, 1 dc3tog (3 dc together),1 fpdtr (front post double treble crochet) taking the tr from 2 previous rows, skip the treble chain of the previous row, 1 dc3tog, 2 dc in the last dc.

Row 3: chain 3 (count as first dc),1 dc2tog (2 dc together),1 fpdtr (front post double treble crochet) taking the tr from 2 previous rows, skip the treble chain of the previous row, 1 dc2tog, 1 dc in the last dc.

Row 4 (all stitches will be finished together): chain 2 (count as 1st unfinished dc), 1 dc2tog ,1 fpdtr (front post double treble crochet) taking the tr from 2 previous rows, skip the treble chain of the previous row, 1 dc2tog, you will have 5 loops in your hook to finished them together, chain 1 and fasten off and weave all the ends.

Steps for small size

Foundation chain and the calamus: chain 4, chain 4 to start the calamus, chain 1, slip stitch in the next 4 chains, chain 4

Row 1:  chain 3 (count as first dc), 2 dc in the same stitch, 1 dc3tog (3 dc together), 1 tr on the calamus, 1 dc3tog, 3 dc in the last chain.

*** From the following rows all the dc will be worked in the back loop only. ***

Row 2:  chain 3 (count as first dc), 2 dc in the same stitch, 1 dc3tog (3 dc together), 1 fptr (front post treble crochet), skip the treble chain of the previous row, 1 dc3tog, 3 dc in the last dc.

Row 3: chain 3 (count as first dc), 2 dc in the same stitch, 1 dc3tog (3 dc together), 1 fpdtr (front post double treble crochet) taking the tr from 2 previous rows, skip the treble chain of the previous row, 1 dc3tog, 3 dc in the last dc.
Row 4 to 6: repeat row 3.

Decreasing rows:

Row 1: chain 3 (count as first dc), 1 dc in the same stitch, 1 dc3tog (3 dc together),1 fpdtr (front post double treble crochet) taking the tr from 2 previous rows, skip the treble chain of the previous row, 1 dc3tog, 2 dc in the last dc.

Row 2: chain 3 (count as first dc),1 dc2tog (2 dc together),1 fpdtr (front post double treble crochet) taking the tr from 2 previous rows, skip the treble chain of the previous row, 1 dc2tog, 1 dc in the last dc.
