How to crochet feathers

I love how the feathers looks on the dream catchers, for a long time i have been waiting the crocheted version of the feathers. One beatiful day, i found this tutorial. Esperanza and Ana Celia are so talented and they created the more easy and fast pattern for us. It is in spanish but it include english subtitles. So i contacted them and they allowed me to write the pattern. YAY!

Materials

Any yarn recommended to crochet with 3 mm hook. I used Camilla Cotton Magic Lilac Shades Blue Shades for the step-by-step photos. I used variegated yarn but this is the perfect project to use all the leftovers of yarn.
2 mm hook
Yarn needle
Scissors

Foundation chain and the calamus: chain 7, chain 6 to start the calamus, chain 1, slip stitch in the next 6 chains, chain 7

Row 4 to 8 (or 10 depends on how large you want your feather): repeat row 3.

Decreasing rows:

Row 1: chain 3 (count as first dc), 1 dc in the same stitch, 3 dc in the next 3 dc, 1 dc3tog (3 dc together), 1 fpdtr (front post double treble crochet) taking the tr from 2 previous rows, skip the treble chain of the previous row, 1 dc3tog, 3 dc in the next 3 dc, 2 dc in the last dc.

Row 6 (all stitches will be finished together): chain 2 (count as 1st unfinished dc), 1 dc2tog ,1 fpdtr (front post double treble crochet) taking the tr from 2 previous rows, skip the treble chain of the previous row, 1 dc2tog, you will have 5 loops in your hook to finished them together, chain 1 and fasten off and weave all the ends.

The finished feather measure 17cm by 5cm. I tried another one using Herrschners 2-Ply Fashion Yarn on Boho Chic with a 2 mm hook and then another using Red Heart Super Saver on Earth and Sky with a 3.5 mm hook. I love how the colors looks on the last one but it's too big to me. It measure 23 cm by 7.5 cm.

    2. Best feather pattern I have seen. But I am having a hard time figuring out how to make a smaller one. (Is there an English version anywhere?) I am tempted to learn Spanish just to understand the beautiful Spanish patterns...but that could take awhile :) I know there is an easy way to convert to a smaller pattern but I am just not having luck at doing it.

    4. Hi Shanna Morrison. I have another post here with the instructions for medium and small sizes. It's pretty the same with less chains at the beginning and less rows. http://gavacrochetlove.blogspot.com/2017/07/how-to-crochet-medium-and-small-feathers.html
